ok, big time fan and supporter of both Hey Hot Shot and Jen’s gallery. Have been to the gallery and to a show when marina and i were last in NYC…also, have always thought the idea of Hey Hot Shot was brilliant as is various innovative things Jen does (tuesday prints, for example)….have friends whove shown there and who’ve won (don w)…..i’ve even thought of sending some stuff….

i have to ask why is the entrance fee now $80….

that’s not only an increase from the original fees, but i just don’t get it….

    and i have another idea:

given the cost of administration (time, staff, effort, etc), why not run a one-time opportunity submission fee at a minimum,

as a photographer who has also worked hard to get work of unknown and known photographers shown, i just dont get the calculus….

i say that as both a supporter/fan/admirer of what jen has accomplished and a supporter/friend of some of the folks represented by the gallery….

not hating on this, but honestly, ….

thoughts over a drink alec when you come in october…

and good luck to the winner…:))

    Hi Bob,
This is Youngna — I’m the lead on the Hey, Hot Shot! competition and am happy to discuss the fee with you and answer some of your questions. We realize the $80 fee is not easy for everyone to pay, but we work hard to offer a wide array of opportunities for exposure for every contender, pull in the best panel we can find, have increased our cash prizes this year, and throughout the competition devote a lot of resources to make this the best opportunity for photographers that’s out there. This is a constant and on-going year-round effort, and from an administrative perspective, have an increasing entry fee as a way to encourage applicants to apply early. This provides the panel and our team much more time to consider the entries and spend more time with the work.

If you’d like to talk more about the $80 fee and why this is part of the competition, I’d be happy to talk about it more over email:
